What I collect
- Your email address, when you sign up for the newsletter, or when you ask a tool to email you its result sheet. Those are two separate things: a sheet request adds you to nothing. The address is used to send that one email and is not put on the list unless you tick the box that says so. Nothing else.
- Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request URL) for security and abuse detection.
- Anonymous page and tool usage: which page or tool was opened, how far down an article the page was scrolled and how long it stayed visible, whether something was exported, shared or clicked, the site that linked you here (the bare domain only, never the full address), your country (derived from the network, never stored as an IP), your language, and desktop-or-mobile. Each event is recorded on its own: there is no cookie and no identifier that follows you between pages, visits or sites, so these numbers cannot be assembled into a profile of you. Your browser's Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control setting is honoured, in which case nothing is recorded.
- Newsletter link clicks, counted per link so I can tell which pieces are worth writing more of. The count is not attached to your address: the list records that a link in a given newsletter was followed, not who followed it. There is no tracking pixel either, so opening an email records nothing at all.
No cookies. No third-party trackers. No fingerprinting.
Who processes it
- A self-hosted mailing list system that stores the subscriber list.
- A third-party email delivery service that relays each newsletter and each result sheet.
- The hosting provider that serves the site and keeps the access logs above.
- Cloudflare Analytics Engine, which stores the anonymous, aggregate usage counts above.
- Cloudflare Browser Rendering, which lays out a tool's result sheet as a PDF when you download one. The sheet passes through it and is not kept.
None of these parties use the data for their own purposes.
How long I keep it
Your email stays on the list until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter contains a one-click unsubscribe link. An address given only to receive a result sheet is not stored on any list; it passes through the delivery service to send that email and nothing is kept here. Server logs follow standard hosting retention.
Your rights
Email me at [email protected] to:
- Request a copy of what's on file (your email address and signup date)
- Request deletion of your record
Unsubscribing alone removes you from future mailings; deletion also removes the record itself.
Updates
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the new version will be dated here.
